Company
Berrolia produces high-end car mounts for smartphones. Under the current name it was founded in 2013 by Michał Mackiewicz, an entrepreneur and professor of economics at the University of Lodz. It inherits tradition from Jerzy Mackiewicz, father of the current CEO. In late 60’s Jerzy Mackiewicz founded a small local watch repair and renovation workshop. Except from watchmaking, he made beautiful knives and accessories from steel and leather.
Now, Berrolia is still a family business. The flag product is Berrolia No. 1 – a high-end car mount manufactured from steel and leather. Berrolia manufactures its product locally, within the network of local experienced craftsmen. Over 20 people are involved in producing every product. The core team is Michał, responsible for design and sales, and his wife Anna, who is responsible for production and logistics network.
Product
Key features of Berrolia No. 1:
Materials
Holders are made from leather and stainless steel. Berrolia uses 100% Italian full-grain leather. It is handpicked and purchased from the same tanneries that make upholstery leather for the Italian luxury car producers. The base plate of Berrolia mounts are made from marine-grade stainless steel.
Craftsmanship
Every piece is 100% handcrafted in the Polish Lodz post-industrial district, by a small circle of craftsmen. This is no mass-production. This is a way of both keeping quality high and helping local economy.
Smart design
Berrolia No. 1 is compatible with the Apple Lightning cable. The Lightning plug can be securely attached to the bottom part of the mount. User can slide in the iPhone to start charging by using just one hand. Tests showed that commuting 40 minutes a day is typically enough to keep an iPhone charged all the time. It eliminates the need to additionally charge phone at home or at work.
Styles and compatibility
Berrolia No. 1 is available in about 8 different colors and finishes, although the exact number may vary, depending on the availabulity of particular types of leather. Again, this is not a mass production.
Currently it is available for iPhone 6/6s/7. Versions for iPhone 5/5c/5s, 6/6s plus and a new 4-inch iPhone will be available in March 2016.
